The Bomanite
process, the
original
cast-in-place,
colored,
textured and
imprinted
architectural
concrete paving,
was developed in
the mid 1950's
by Brad Bowman.
Bowman, who had
studied
sculpture and
was a camouflage
expert in World
War II, went
into the
construction
business after
the war. Not
long after, he
developed an
early imprinting
method that he
called
“ornamented
concrete” and
initially used
it on the
sidewalks of
Carmel,
California.
Several
California
contractors used
the Bomanite
process in the
60’s. The
technique was
deceptively
simple in
concept. The
V-shaped blades
of a metal
stamping
platform imprint
a pattern on
fresh concrete.
By using at
least two
stamping units,
the first stamp
can be removed
and placed next
to the second
stamp to produce
a continuously
printed
decorative
pattern.
In 1970 Daniel
Sieben, Frank
Shallenberger,
John Wilcox and
Brad Bowman
co-founded
Bomanite
Corporation.
From its Palo
Alto,
California,
offices,
Bomanite
Corporation
began expanding
its reach and
experience by
establishing
franchises
around the
United States
and other
countries around
the world. The
company moved
its corporate
offices to
Madera,
California, in
1990 to an
expanded
facility to
accommodate the
growth in the
Bomanite
organization
over the
previous 20
years.
In addition to
our network of
contractors,
Bomanite
Corporation

many of the
